City of Los Angeles 230th Birthday Celebration

September 3, 2011 Event Schedule

Come join our Annual March from Mission San Gabriel to Olvera Street.  On September 4, 1781 the 11 families and 4 Soldiers and their families set out from Mission San Gabriel and walked the 9 miles to what today is known as Olvera Street.  At 6:00 am the Priest blessed them and sent them out to found what has become known today as the City of Los Angeles.  Since September of 1981 the descendants of those who founded the City have held their Annual Commorative March.  We begin at 6:00 am at Mission San Gabriel then walk to Union Station, where at 9:30 am we will gather together and then march across the street to Olvera Street.  After a brief program at approximately 11:30 am we will have a brunch at El Paseo Mexican Restaurant.  Cost will be $15.00, plus your drink. Then we will remain in the area so we can join the First Annual GRAND MARIAN PROCESSION.  The event will begin at 3:00 pm from La Placita Church; arrive 4:00 pm at the Cathedral Plaza where  at 4:30 pm a Rosary will be said, at 5:00 pm the Formal Procession into the Sanctuary begins, at 5:30 pm will be the Votive Mass.  After the mass at 6:45 pm there will be a reception in the Cathedral Plaza for all of the participants in attendance.  We would like as many of our members to come out and join with us and to celebrate the 230th Birthday of the founding of Los Angeles. There will be banners, flags, color guards, bag pipes and more a small number of our members will be part of the Formal Procession, with the rest of our members following.  We were asked to wear Spanish, Native American, Soldado Uniforms or other appropriate attire.  And please no shorts nor T-shirts or tank tops.

Please note: The Grand Marian Procession is organized by Our Lady Queen of Angels Foundation, event and times are subject to change.
